Overview
Kim Lubel is an accomplished board director and former Fortune 250 CEO who brings a deep understanding of the energy sector. Lubel came up through functional roles to become GC of Valero Energy (Fortune 20), and ultimately became CEO of their retail business, which she helped spin out and run as the public company CST Brands, Inc. Along with her extensive experience in strategic M&A and corporate governance, Lubel has a proven track record of improving employee engagement and successful brand and culture building.
Career History
Lubel currently serves as a board member and Chair of the Audit Committee of PBF Energy, Inc. (NYSE:PBF). Additionally, she serves on the boards of Arcosa, Inc. (NYSE:ACA) and Westlake Corporation (NYSE:WLK). Lubel also serves as Vice Chair of the Southwest Research Institute Board of Directors and as a board member of Inspire Trust Company.
Among her professional recognitions, Lubel received the DirectWomen Sandra Day O’Connor Board Excellence Award in 2024 and has twice been named to Fortune’s 50 Most Powerful Women list (2013 & 2015), and is a sought-after public speaker.
In her role as Chairman and CEO of CST Brands, Lubel developed corporate strategy, built business models, and successfully led the multi-billion-dollar corporation from initial public offering through strategic review and acquisition by Circle K in June 2017. Previously, she spent over 15 years with Valero Energy Corporation, including six years as Valero’s Executive Vice President and General Counsel. Her previous roles at Valero included Vice President of Legal Services, Managing Counsel, Senior Counsel, and Corporate Counsel.
Lubel began her career at Kelly, Hart & Hallman as a corporate associate, where she gained broad experience in mergers and acquisition and finance.
Lubel is also active in the non-profit sector, currently serving as Board Chair of United Ways of Texas. She also sits on the Boards of the Miami University (Ohio) Foundation and the University of Texas School of Law Foundation as well as the Houston Memorial Park Conservancy Board of Directors.
Personal
Lubel graduated from the University of Texas School of Law, and also has her Master’s in international relations from Baylor University, as well as a B.A. in Spanish and a B.A. in International Studies from Miami University (Ohio). She has three adult children and loves to cook, especially when the family is around to feed. Lubel spends much of her summers with family and friends in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, where she loves to hike and explore new trails (and cook some more!). She currently resides in Houston, Texas.
