Overview

Clay Batley is a Leadership Consultant at The ExCo Group. In his role, Clay regularly interfaces with key HR stakeholders as a thought partner in the creation and design of organizational leadership development strategies. He is a liaison between our coaches and customers, ensuring consistent feedback loops are integrated into coaching. He also translates trends from our individual engagements into broader themes that prove invaluable for our customers’ understanding of their talent landscape.

Career History

Before joining the ExCo Group, Clay worked as an Associate with the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller. At IM, Clay worked with mission-driven organizations – primarily within the higher education sector – to identify successors for prominent senior leadership positions. In his role, Clay partnered with client stakeholders to assess organizational needs and spearheaded candidate pool research and development processes for each search as well as providing project management oversight across a remote and matrixed team environment. Some of Clay’s notable placements include the Chancellor of LSU-Shreveport, the Director of the MIT Museum, and the Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Rochester, among others. Prior to Clay’s time at Isaacson, Miller, he started his career as a Business Development Consultant with Oracle.

Personal

Clay attended the University of Georgia and double-majored in Psychology and Sociology while earning a certificate from UGA’s Terry College of Business in Entrepreneurship. Clay’s academic experience at UGA allowed him to curate a multi-degree program that provided a blend of experiences and knowledge tailored to an HR career, specifically related to leadership and its impact on organizations. While at UGA, Clay was also engaged in various extracurriculars in different leadership capacities, participated in grant-funded research as an undergraduate assistant, and spent a semester abroad in Paris, France.

Outside of work, Clay is passionate about art and museums and keeps up to date with the changing collections at the various museums and studios in and around Washington, D.C. by visiting them as often as he can. Clay is also an avid lacrosse enthusiast and is currently the Head Boys Varsity Coach for Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington, Virginia, and a semi-professional lacrosse player with the Virginia Golden Bears of the North America Box Lacrosse League. Clay currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife and very excitable mixed-breed black lab, Hudson.
