Challenge

A PE-backed company was scaling quickly and, after a change in ownership, the leadership team decided it needed a reset for how they were working together. After all, the group was a mix of company veterans and outside hires, and there was neither consensus nor clarity about the strategy to achieve its ambitious growth targets over the next 18 months. In addition, the CEO wanted to foster a stronger culture for the entire company through a sharper narrative about its mission and goals.

ExCo conducted extensive interviews and a Leadership Values Assessment to better understand the group’s collective thinking about the gap between how it operated and how it wanted to work together. After that due diligence, ExCo facilitated a day-long offsite for the team.

Impact

The team developed a robust plan for its strategy that was simple enough to communicate broadly throughout the organization. The team also landed on how they would work together going forward, including a cadence and focus of their leadership team meetings. In addition, it agreed on how to best leverage the CEO’s time—a necessary shift, given that he was being pulled into granular and tactical decisions that were not the best use of his time. The organization’s performance accelerated quickly after the offsite, given the renewed sense of alignment.
